February Art Walk-Main Library- 2/1/06
JCAAA Artists- Suzanne Pickett, Marsha Hatcher, Walden, Overstreet Ducasse, and Princess Rashid participated in the February artwalk at the downtown Main Library. Their set up was located on the 4th floor. The event was successful in terms of networking and making contacts. It also provided artists a chance to fellowship and encourage each other. Thank you Karen Barnes of Downtown Visions, and Kema DeSagrada at the Main Library for providing the opportunity to show our work!!!
Curious patrons of the Library take time to peruse the exhibiting JCAAA artists.
Fellow Jacksonville artist, Vincent Dolan, stops by to lend his support and check out the latest creations by some of his JCAAA friends.

"The Bottom Line" at The Kent Gallery - 1/31/06
The opening show was a great success! The JCAAA artists who particated in the show are: John Wise, Marsha Hatcher, Overstreet Ducasse, Gil Mayers, Roosevelt Watson III, Annelies Dykgraaf, Suzanne Pickett, Princess Rashid, and Suzzette Solano.
We had several crowds of people come through. The purpose of this show is the challenge the viewer to increase their awareness and knowledge about African American Art and Artists directly. That's the Bottom Line!

JCAAA Art Show at FCCJ North Campus
Well the show was a great success! The opening was last night, Tuesday, Jan. 17th from 6-8 pm.
Thank you Kerry Roth (FCCJ Student Activities), Marsha Hatcher for curating the show, and all the JCAAA members that participated! Also a special thanks to Sarah Gay (Director of Art in Public Places Program) and Mr. & Mrs. Williams of the Jacksonville Advocate for coming out and supporting this JCAAA event.

It's A Mural At Andrew Jackson High School!

Saturday, Dec 10, 2005 Jacksonville artists, including many JCAAA members, aided students of Andrew Jackson High School in designing and executing a mural in one of the main hallways of the school. The school is located in downtown area withing the Springfield district.
One of the significant factors and driving need behind the work is that this high school does not actually have an art program. This mural project is one of the only art experiences provided to these students this year!
The project was pulled together by city leader, Tony Allegretti. Some of the JCAAA members who are participating in this project are: Marsha Hatcher, Overstreet Ducasse, Annelies Dkygraaf, Princess Rashid and Roosevelt Watson III. In the photo on the left, Princess Rashid can be seen supervising students.

Mural Project-Chalk Drawings
During Part 2 of the projects, the students were encouraged to make chalk cartoons of their intended design. Here are some of the results by these talented kids.
Mural Project-Black Outline
Tony Allegretti and the participating artists suggested to students to outline their chalk drawing in black paint before beginning to laying in colors and details.
In the event we ran out of time, the students would still have a reference point for the next painting session. That way and there would be less change the chalk sketches would be erased.

During the early portion of the day, the artists encouraged, supervised and advised the students on how to best begin executing mural. It seemed the most inescapable concern was the fear of heights.

"It’s About The Art"

When your heart is in it and you love art, what else can you do? You can bring it to the public. There are thousands of art lovers in Jacksonville that never have time to make it to the galleries. So, we solved that problem. Now, you can enjoy a social evening out with friends, listen to a band, and enjoy a chic cuisine, all while viewing the most exquisite artwork in town.
Many JCAAA members participate in the semi-annual Empowerment Art Auction. All have sold artwork on various occasions and have even received requests for commissioned pieces. The Empowerment Art Auction not only brings consumers together with artists, it also works with Your Helping Hand to assist the community.
This Christmas, we assisted Erin Bannister, a Hurricane Katrina victim, attempting to reclaim her life and education in a new city. She’s found employment and has temporary housing with the Sabag family. We will assist her in purchasing new clothes and putting a down payment on a place of her own. We sold three pieces of donated artwork this Christmas from Overstreet Ducasse, Oksana Kravchenko, and Gabriel Ajaya adding $176.25 to the $600 in sponsorship money, all given to assist Erin.

Out of the many JCAAA members who participated in the Tidor Inc Art Auction on Decmber 3rd in Springfield, Overstreet Ducassse's painting was one of the first donated works that sold at auction. Congratulations Overstreet!

Sculpture by John Wise
John Wise is an amazing sculptor and one of JCAAA's newest members. He is currently exhibiting a body of work at the Haskell Gallery at the Jacksonville International Airport (JIA). At the request of the Haskell Gallery, his show has been extended throughout the month of December 2005.
