Black Art In America The Leading Voice for the Black Arts Community. South Arts seeks a dynamic, multi-talented executive director to build on its exceptional 37-year track record of strengthening the south through advancing excellence in the arts, connecting the arts to key state and national policies, and nurturing a vibrant quality of life. South Arts, a nonprofit regional arts organization based in Atlanta, GA, was founded in 1975 to build on the South's unique heritage and enhance the public value of the arts. South Arts' work responds to the arts environment and cultural trends with a regional perspective. The organization works in partnership with the nine state arts agencies of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, and is funded by those member states, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), foundations, corporations, and individuals. In 2009, South Arts undertook a comprehensive strategic planning process to evaluate its direction and establish goals for the next several years. The resulting Strategic Plan serves as a vital tool guiding the organization’s annual portfolio of activities designed to address arts-related issues important to our region and to link the South with the nation and the world through the arts. Ideal candidates for this position will possess an innate passion for the arts, exhibit political savvy and understanding of the complex landscape around public funding for the arts, and have direct management experience in a complementary arts or nonprofit organization. Florida Association of Public Art Professionals (FAPAP) is pleased to announce the Call for Submissions for the first annual juried state of Florida Public Art Year in Review.

 Participate and bring valued recognition through the arts to your city and/or to you as an artist. Public art projects submitted will be reviewed and selected by this year’s jurors Helen Lessick and George Bolge.

All projects submitted must have been completed during the calendar year 2011.

 The deadline to submit is April 18, 2012

 Please forward to all who want to be included! ALSO, while you’re at it, submit your work to the Americans for the Arts Public Art Network 2012 Year in Review, also on CaFE. Because both YIRs are on café it is easier to submit. Once your images are formatted properly and downloaded into café (there is no cost) you can submit easily to both.

The Art Center Cooperative, Inc. has been invited to participate in the Commemorate 450!, 450 Years of French

History in Florida during Jacksonville FRENCH Week – Thursday, April 6 – Sunday, May 6, 2012.

Mayor Alvin Brown is the Honorary Chair of “Commemorate 450!” and everyone is invited to participate in and enjoy the activities now being listed on the City’s site: http://www.commemorate450.coj.net. On May 1, 1562,

French Huguenot Captain Jean Ribault sailed into the mouth of our river, naming it The River of May, and this was the beginning of European exploration and French history in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Art Center is inviting local plein air artists to paint at the Ft. Caroline National Memorial at the Timucuan Preserve on Tuesday, May 1, the day of the rededication of the Ribault Monument. The preserve is open between 9:00 AM -5:00 PM. Those artists who paint are offered to display their one framed painting at our Hogan Street space during downtown Jacksonville Art Walk on Wednesday, May 2.

Artists may set up on the park grounds during normal hours. Room will be extremely limited at the site of the rededication, so the Ribault Monument area will be closed to plein air painters in the morning. The rededication will start at 10:00 AM. Painters may work in the Ribault Column area in the afternoon.

Framed, ready-to-hang paintings are to be delivered to the The Art Center II Studios at 229 North Hogan Street on Tuesday, May 1 between 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM.
